What is a HEIC file, and why convert it to JPG?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads have saved photos in by default since iOS 11. It stores a picture at roughly half the size of a JPG at similar quality, which is great for your phone’s storage — but it is an Apple format that many Windows PCs, Android phones, older apps, and websites still cannot open. Converting HEIC to JPG re-encodes the exact same photo into the universally supported JPG format, so it opens anywhere, uploads to any site, and attaches to any email. Because this tool runs entirely in your browser, the photo is converted on your own device and is never uploaded to a server.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Add your .heic files by dropping them onto the page or clicking to browse, press Convert, and download the JPG — that is the whole process, and it happens in your browser in seconds. You can convert a single iPhone photo or batch an entire camera roll at once. There is no software to install and no account to create. If you want the smallest possible files, lower the JPG quality a little; if you want a result indistinguishable from the original, keep quality at 90–95.
Why won’t my HEIC files open on Windows or Android?
HEIC is Apple’s default and, while newer versions of Windows and some Android phones can open it with an extra codec installed, many still show an error or a blank thumbnail. That is the single most common reason people convert HEIC to JPG: they have received or transferred iPhone photos and need them to just open on a PC, an Android device, or in software that only understands JPG. Converting to JPG solves it permanently — the resulting file is a standard image that every device and program has understood for decades.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at a quality setting of 90–95 the converted photo is visually indistinguishable from the HEIC original at normal viewing size. The one trade-off is file size: because HEIC compresses more efficiently, the JPG is often larger than the HEIC it came from, even though it looks the same. If you need the best possible fidelity for editing or printing, convert at maximum quality; if you are sharing online and want a lighter file, a slightly lower quality still looks excellent.
Is converting HEIC to JPG free and private?
Yes on both counts. There is no charge, no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many HEIC files you convert. And because the conversion runs locally in your browser, your photos are never sent to a server — which matters, since photos are personal. Many online HEIC converters upload your images and promise to delete them later; here there is nothing to delete, because nothing is ever uploaded in the first place.
Converting HEIC to JPG on iPhone, Mac, Windows, and Android
The same page works on every device with no app to install. On an iPhone or iPad, convert a HEIC to JPG before sharing it with someone on Windows or Android. On a Mac, batch a folder of HEIC exports into JPG for a client or an older application. On a Windows PC or an Android phone, convert HEIC files you have received so they finally open. Everything runs in the browser you already have, and nothing you add is ever uploaded.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
The most common mistake is setting the JPG quality very low to save space — for iPhone photos, keep it moderate to high so faces and detail stay clean. Another is expecting the JPG to be smaller than the HEIC; it usually is not, because HEIC is the more efficient format, so convert for compatibility rather than for size. If you specifically need transparency or the absolute best fidelity, convert HEIC to PNG instead. And keep your original HEIC files if your device still has room — they are the smaller archive copy.
Why convert here instead of another site?
Most online HEIC-to-JPG converters upload your photos to a server, convert them there, and ask you to trust that they delete them afterwards. This tool never uploads anything — the decoding and re-encoding happen inside your browser, so photos that are often personal stay on your device from start to finish. There are no watermarks, no sign-up wall, and no cap on how many photos you convert. It is faster too, with no upload-and-wait step, and it keeps working even if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
